DRAW US A NEW PIRATE CHARACTER - WE HAVE A WINNER!
To accompany our summer 2011 tour of our enchanting stage adaptation of The Night Pirates, by Peter Harris and Deborah Allwright, we ran a drawing competition and asked children to create a brand new pirate character.
With first prize of an original Night Pirates illustration, kindly donated by illustrator Deborah Allwright, and two runners up prizes of a selection of children’s books, including a copy of The Night Pirates signed by Deborah Allwright, kindly donated by Egmont Publishing, we received lots of entries to this competition.
We asked Deborah to judge the competition. She has spent the last couple of months marooned on an island without pirate broadband trying to decide which new pirate character should be the winner. “The pirate portraits are fantastic. If they were all on the same ship they would be a formidable and challenging crew. It was a mighty task to pick the winner!” said Deborah.
We are pleased to announce the winner and two runners up are:
1st PRIZE - Isa, age 7, London
Deborah loves Isa’s jaunty pirate with the great expression and dress detail, including the very large hat with feather.
2nd PRIZE – Mariam, age 7, London
Mariam’s pirate is Deborah’s next choice with his own chip and treasure on board. She also loves the spiky hair and earrings (like a Johnny Rotten of the high seas) and of course another great hat!
3rd PRIZE – Emma, age 7, Carlisle
Emma’s feisty pirate with a gold toothed smile is Deborah’s next choice. She has obviously been in battle with her clothes torn, but must have won the fight judging by the heart on her sword.
A big AAARRRRrrrr!! And thanks to all those who entered. We will be posting the prizes out to you soon.
