FIVE
Choreographed by Kitty Winter with original music by Wayne Walker-Allen
For children aged 3 - 7
What is this? What does it look like? How does it feel? Does it make a noise? Join two dancers and a live musician as they use their eyes and ears, noses and mouths, fingers and feet to investigate some weird and wonderful, bizarre and beautiful objects.
What will the dancers do when they see, hear, smell, taste and touch? Will they jump? Will they shiver? Will they roll on the floor giggling? The show introduces our five human senses in a fun and interactive way, through the language of dance and movement.
FIVE transforms the theatre into a laboratory for the senses, where the dancers move around and among the audience and music fills the air.
FIVE is an installation for children aged 3 – 7 years that explores the five senses, using them as a starting point to generate beautiful and satisfying dance.
Background to the Project
FIVE was originally commissioned by Theatre Hullabaloo as part of the company’s commitment to encouraging talented emerging Directors. Kitty Winter created the piece with inspiration from teachers and children from Darlington Early Years settings and installed it at Darlington Arts Centre where more than 1,000 five year olds came to see it in the autumn of 2007.
In 2008, FIVE toured nationally and was in residence at the egg, Theatre Royal Bath, Salisbury Playhouse and Birmingham Rep. In 2009, Five travelled to Toronto as part of Theatre Hullabaloo’s exchange of work with Theatre Direct Canada.
FIVE is suitable for children aged 3 – 7 years old and their families. It is available for national and international touring in 2010 and 2011.
