What our Research Lead Paige got up to in Greece!

Thanks to some funding, our Research Lead Paige was recently invited to attend the 2nd International Meeting of Arts Prescribing in Health Care, which took place in the foothills of Mount Olympus in Greece.

Paige met with other researchers and professional to discuss our Let’s Play Programme!

Let’s Play is a programme, designed by Theatre Hullabaloo and is prescribed by health care professionals to parents/caregivers who might be facing challenges such as loneliness & post-natal depression. It is also referred to families who might benefit from connecting with others through singing and playing in a safe environment. Let’s Play is designed to inspire confidence in parenting, and the results we’ve seen are fantastic.

The conference focussed on 5 main areas of arts prescribing: evidence, practice, policy, education & experience.

Here’s what Paige had to say on her experience at the conference, and sharing the success of the Let’s Play Programme:

“This conference was the best I’ve ever been to in my career. It was full of people who believed and had evidence of the arts helping to heal both physically and mentally.

The conference had over 50 people in attendance and I got to learn about organisations helping trafficked women heal their inner selves in America, having cancer patients create the artwork in waiting areas around the hospital and feeling like artists rather than hospital patients in the UK, and how Portugal is embracing social prescription for children.

Sharing Let’s Play and the evidence that we have collected felt like a big deal for many of these people and so many people came up to me after the talk to ask if they could collaborate and discuss Theatre Hullabaloo’s wonderful work.

The conference attendees all hiked around Mount Olympus on the second day and we got to know each other better. It was great to get out in nature and learn about the gods that the ancients believed to live at the top. I got to connect with women from Darts in Doncaster and the whole cultural experience was one I will not forget.”
