A Square World
Daryl Beeton Productions
KS1 /2   4-8 years
3-4 March 2022

A Square World is a story of friends who enjoy the same routine day after day, each day is the same until an unexpected change is forced upon just one of them. This accidental happening throws everyone into disarray, the friends are suddenly divided into those who can and the one who can’t.

The friends realise their daily routine is no longer as enjoyable as it was and together decide they need to redefine the rules of the square world in which they live. By injecting a little fun and chaos they soon discover their lives won’t be square ever again!  This endearing and funny performance looks at the unfairness of being left out in a world designed for everyone else but yourself.

From the mind of Daryl Beeton comes A Square World, an honest, touching and   bizarrely quirky piece of theatre for young audiences. This non verbal story, set to an original commissioned soundtrack uses clean-cut simple design, object manipulation and elements of surprise to create an ever evolving and imaginative world. A place where we discover anything can happen once we think differently and rip up the rule book.

Baba Yaga supports pupil’s development of spoken language, an appreciation of fiction from other traditions, with an understanding of good over evil and provides an opportunity for schools to broaden literacy understanding of traditional tales.

A deliciously dark and funny fairytale where danger skulks but safety is closer than you think…

A sister and a brother are forced to flee from their home only to find themselves alone in a whole new landscape.
A New-Place. Surely they will find safety here?

But shshshsh! Just beyond in a chicken-leg house, lurks the most dangerous new danger, of the snap-you-up-and gobble-you-down-if-you’re-not-careful variety. The most infamous of witches. The most unpredictable of adversaries.

The lip-smacking, chiddler-nicking, fear-smelling Baba Yaga! Stand by for magical shenanigans and belly-laughs aplenty which celebrates the brilliance and bravery of children (if you can stop shaking in your socks that is!)

A dark new fairytale, where danger skulks in the least expected corners, but safety is closer than you think.
‘Shshshsh! She’s here!’
