Place to Play

Theatre Hullabaloo’s Creative Play programmes are coming to the Tees Valley, Middlesbrough and Redcar come and play!

Theatre Hullabaloo believes creative play is the engine of learning and wellbeing. When families play together it makes them happier, healthier, and better connected. We already offer creative play to families in Darlington, for free, six days a week – now we are bringing this offer to Middlesbrough and Redacr & Cleveland for the first time.

Commissioned by Borderlands and funded by Arts Council England, Creative People and Places, with funding support from the Tees Valley Combined Authority, we will be opening unique, Creative Play spaces in Park End and Skelton Family Hubs in Spring 2024. These spaces are artist designed installations for young children and their grown-ups to take part in shared play experiences. Each one has been created by a specialist early years artist, with specific developmental aims in mind.

Alongside Creative Play, Theatre Hullabaloo will be offering two additional programmes:

Let’s Play – a free play on prescription programme, taking place over 12 weekly workshops led by artist facilitators with specialist early years training. These workshops will use music, storytelling and play to support engagement and development in babies and toddlers, and build confidence for parents. This programme is by referral only. More information about how to participate in Let’s Play will become available on this page.

Make & Do -During half terms, school holidays and some after-school/weekends, Theatre Hullabaloo will run activities for children under 10 to enjoy at Park End Family Hub.

Park End Family Hub

The Creative Play installation ‘Dreamland’ will open at Park End in March 2024.

Dreamland is a beautiful sensory play installation for very young children and their grown-ups to take a journey above the clouds.

Tuck yourself in for a bedtime story
Drift away on a feather pillow
Fly high with a flock of birds
Sweet lullabies float on the wind as you dance on the clouds…

This is a FREE activity taking place in Park End Family Hub and there is no need to book.

(Please be aware, during busier times there may be a short wait.)

Please check this page for specific opening dates closer to the time.

The Let’s Play prescription scheme will be open for referrals very soon and is expected to start running in April 2024. Exact dates and information to follow.

The Make & Do programme is in the planning stages. When activities are confirmed they will be added for booking to this page. Bookings will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Skelton Family Hub

We are currently in consultation with Skelton Family Hub to design the Place to Play programme for their venue and the intention is to launch in April 2024. Please revisit this page for updates in the coming months.
