Beneath the Snow is an exciting, playful and enchanting adventure with beautiful music and lighting. In this immersive show, two figures dressed in white walk on a white carpet made of lots of tissue paper. You can hear the sound of the wind and the snow crunching under their feet. They playfully awaken what lay dormant, opening the doors to the imagination.

You will discover creatures created from the snow, a flying fish, a dragon perhaps, as well as encountering an angry sea and dancing moons, and then little by little, the paper takes flight towards the audience and invites you to play too!

Audiences will sit on the stage in close proximity to the actors and bed of tissue paper so they can fully experience the magic of this show.

Access Information

  • Set design: A rectangular set full of white tissue paper with the audience seated on the floor around it. Music comes from speakers located at the 4 corners of the room around the audience.
  • Performers: 2 performers play together and, little by little, they find things hidden beneath the snow and imagine games and stories with it. They wear simple white costumes.
  • Lights: The space is dark with colourful (pink, red, blue, green) theatrical lighting used throughout. There are moments of darkness on stage, and some very bright lighting.
  • Experience: There is no text but a soundscape of instrumental music and sound throughout. Performers play with the tissue paper in the center of the space. Sometimes they come into the audience, encouraging them to touch the tissue paper objects, and make a breeze on their faces with big paper sheets. At the end, the audience can play with the paper.
  • Trigger warning: sometimes in the dark, sound of thunder and a storm on one occasion.

You can also catch this show at Edinburgh International Children’s Festival from Thurs 29th May – Sun 1st June.
